Spotify price hike expected in U.S. next year, says report

Spotify is preparing for a Spotify price hike in the United States during the first quarter of next year, according to a Financial Times report citing three people familiar with the matter. If implemented, it would mark the first U.S. subscription price increase since June 2024.

The music-streaming giant has relied heavily on price adjustments across global markets to strengthen earnings, raising subscription costs in more than 150 regions earlier this year. In August, Spotify increased prices in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific, lifting its monthly premium rate from 10.99 euros to 11.99 euros.

The upcoming U.S. increase would represent the platform’s continued strategy of leaning on price hikes while expecting limited user churn due to its dominant market presence. Spotify did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

The company has recently delivered strong financial signals. Earlier this month, Spotify forecast its fourth-quarter profit above Wall Street expectations, fueled by robust user growth and gains from previously implemented subscription increases ahead of the holiday season.

Spotify’s continued push toward higher pricing reflects a broader industry trend among streaming services seeking to balance rising operational costs with long-term profitability.
